Position Purpose
To develop public policy in the interests of the property investment industry and advocate these to NSW policy makers to see them implemented.
- Monitor the NSW policy, political and legislative process.
- Proactively develop and manage operating and strategic policy positions (in designated policy areas) to put to State and local government incorporating strong member input.
- Influence the legislative and political process.
- Proactively identify opportunities that further the organisation’s policy agenda.
- Advocate Property Council policy positions to NSW policymakers.
- Represent industry on government committees and working groups where relevant.
- Initiate and maintain positive relationships with key politicians, their advisors and key state, local bureaucrats.
- Manage the relationship with the NSW Event Manager and Commercial Director to ensure appropriate advocacy content including blurbs for marketing.
- In conjunction with Membership Central support strategies to retain and attract members.
- Oversee the research program for the NSW Division, in consultation with the Deputy Executive Director.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong experience in policy and/or advocacy.
- Demonstrated understanding of the political process and the strategic planning challenges facing Sydney and NSW.
- Track record in proactively identifying issues that require organisation involvement.
- Demonstrated ability to manage issues and projects.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated record of preparing structured reports and policy documents.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including interpersonal, negotiation and advocacy skills.
- Ability to work in a small team environment and be able to develop effective relationships internally and externally.
- Ability to be self-motivated and work with limited supervision.
- Ability to undertake multiple tasks at the same time and meet competing deadlines.
- Tertiary education in politics, planning, architecture, public affairs, economics, law, property development or similar.
