The Position
This role will lead Organon’s media and communications strategies. To do this, the position will work closely with the Company’s policy, government relations, commercial, medical, HR, and regulatory functions in developing and executing communication strategies. Additionally, supporting our People First culture at Organon by driving internal communications. 
This role will sit in Organon’s Strategy & Business Excellence Department and is responsible for gaining and maintaining timely access for our medicines, building the company’s reputation and advocacy efforts, through the media.
This role will contribute to industry leading performance in:
  • Leading our external media presence by maintaining a high and positive profile in the media, with external stakeholders and with employees;
  • Building trust and respect with key customers.
  • Working to drive internal communications strategies
Responsibilities:
Delivery of Organon’s Communications Objectives (70%)
  • Builds Organon’s reputation through implementing our external and internal communications program including:
    • Delivering corporate communications on company-wide business developments and issues;
    • Delivering communications relating to our employee value proposition to engage current and potential future employees;
    • Devising product communications, particularly for new products under review & launch products;
    • Devising communication campaigns specifically related to key therapeutic areas and patient disease awareness communications;
    • Delivering communications on broad policy issues;
    • Delivering crisis management communications and issues management requiring the ability to do so under time pressure;
    • First point of contact for external media enquiries;
    • Manage Organon’s corporate social media channels.
  • Strengthens the relationships & capabilities the Company needs to maintain a positive external profile, covering:
    • Regular, proactive outreach to top tier health journalists in industry, medical & mainstream media;
    • Managing agencies, social media experts & content providers to complement internal capabilities;
    • Building broad internal skills in good writing, verbal presentation and social media content;
    • Ensuring that all media activities adhere to our internal standards & the Medicines Australia Code of Conduct.
    • Develops active relationships with relevant external stakeholders aligned with Organon’s vision and business, including not-for-profit organisations and patient groups
  • Develops and delivers the Company’s internal communications program, covering:
    • Delivering communications from the Managing Director and/or leadership team on major announcements and strategic updates;
    • Partner and support HR Team in drafting communications covering employee engagement, company culture, professional development, diversity & inclusion, company standards & well-being;
    • Content development and programming of regular, company-wide town hall meetings;
    • Management and content development for the bi-annual Company National Business Meeting plenary program;
    • Provide advice to staff on the best ways to communicate with target audiences
    • Regular content updates of our Company intranet site;
    • Active engagement in driving the Company’s Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) program
    • Manage and support successful engagement with internal communication channels.
Leadership and Strategic Counsel (30%)
  • Broad organisational leadership skills - contribute to developing an aligned, constructive company-wide culture.
  • Provide communications advice to the Leadership Team & across the business as required.
  • Collaborates with relevant leaders and teams to leverage Organon business
  • Build a strong network within the Company’s global communications community, ensuring Australia contributes to the global organisation’s communications program and leverages global resources and best practice.
  • Is a key team contributor, ensuring that all corporate and product external affairs activities have fully integrated communications plans.
  • Maintain knowledge of competitor movements & information by monitoring press releases, advertising and publicity campaigns.
  • Monitor local and industry media for articles relating to the pharmaceutical industry and issues affecting the Company and/or its products and act upon releases accordingly.
  • Manage communications budget.
Experience
  • Strong media relations skills with current media contacts.
  •  5 years’ experience in communications in the pharmaceutical industry, or other similarly highly regulated, complex, industry. 
  • Involvement in running high level strategic and cross-disciplinary campaigns within a team.
Skills & Competencies
  • High level writing skills for both internal and external communications, teamed with strong verbal presentation ability (e.g. as a spokesperson to the media).
  • Solid issues and crisis-management skills in developing content rapidly, under time pressure and with the requirement to align communication across the company and multiple stakeholders.
  • Well-developed networking skills and ability to build strong relationships with journalists and stakeholders.
  •  Strong strategic insight, particularly in understanding how corporate imperatives and narratives should be integrated into communications content.
  • Passion for internal communications and engaging employees.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness, particularly being able to work productively under pressure with stakeholders, peers and customers.
  • Project management, attention to detail and time management.
  • Effective social media skills, particularly with corporate communications channels such as LinkedIn.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate / Bachelor qualifications either in communications or life sciences required.
