Nexus Inc is an NDIS registered, not-for-profit organisation. We employ approximately 500 staff who provide support and Development opportunities for people who require physical, social, and psychological supports. Nexus Inc. Supports clients throughout the south and the north-west of Tasmania.
About the team
The Nexus Complex and Individualised Supports Division is focused on providing support to clients of all ages who have a variety of high level or complex support needs.
Our staff are trained to provide trauma informed support and to work with clients and psychologists to implement Positive Behaviour Support plans to enable clients to actively engage in their daily lives.
Your role as a Practice and Development Consultant - Complex and Individualised Supports
We are currently seeking an experienced, proactive, and motivated Practice and Development Consultant to join our supportive team working in Hobart as part of our Complex and Individualised Support Division.
Reporting to the Manager Complex and Individualised Support, you will support and provide management to supervise and provide practice advice to staff formally and informally.
In this role you will:
- Undertake responsibility for moderately complex projects, including planning, co-ordination, implementation, and administration.
- Provide expert advice, guidance and support to employees classified at lower levels and/or volunteers.
- Undertake analysis/design for the development and maintenance of projects and/or undertake programming in specialist areas.
- Set priorities and monitor workflows in your area of responsibility which may include establishing work programs in specific programs.
- Work closely with other organisations through care teams to support clients – including Child Safety, Community Mental Health, Adolescent Psychiatry, and Community Mental Health. Provide support to the care teams through minute taking and coordination. Provide progress reports as and when required.
- Contribute to the continuous development of culture and positive work practices in a rapidly growing disability service.
- Undertake the development, planning and supervise the implementation of educational, training and/or developmental programs for staff.
- Supporting and implementing policies and procedures of Nexus.
- Facilitate training for staff in a group and individual setting around Trauma Informed Practice.
- In consultation with appropriate professionals, implement, modify, and review programs (such as behaviour modification strategies) for staff to work successfully with clients.
- Liaison with relevant authorities and agencies.
- Be accountable for all Special Care Packages and take the lead on specialists report writing in the area.
Our ideal candidate will have the following (Selection Criteria)
- Demonstrated experience in clinical guidance and/or leading of rights-based trauma informed service models.
- Demonstrated empathy and understanding of issues relating to people with psycho-social disabilities who have complex support needs that impacts on others.
- Be able to manage and exercise a degree of autonomy; control projects and/or programs; and establish priorities and monitor workflow in areas of responsibility.
- Ability to draw on technical reports and advice to develop a practical therapeutic plan that enables support staff to work effectively with complex clients.
- Demonstrate your experience in managing emergency situations as well as working in an environment where there is change and uncertainty.
- Discuss you experience and ability to develop, organise and monitor programs to assess staff skills and abilities for development.
Working in the disability sector means you will also need the following (or ability to obtain):
- Current National Police Check (no more than 6 months old)
- Current Working with Vulnerable People Card (with NDIS endorsement)
- Current First Aid certificate and medication training (HLTHPS006)
- Unrestricted Tasmanian Driver’s license
- Certificate of full Covid 19 vaccination (in-line with government requirements).
Note: A pre-employment physical will be required for this role (including drug and alcohol testing).
