Aboriginal Family Support Services (AFSS) is a lead, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation that has been providing services to Aboriginal families and communities across South Australia for over 40 years.
Your new role
AFSS Stronger Families program offers the Together With Families Service that support families facing a range of challenges to develop new skills and networks to help keep their kids safe and connected, the Intensive Family Service (IFS) aimed at keeping children safely with their families where there has been significant child protection concerns, and the Reunification Service, supporting families to have children returned to their care.
AFSS is seeking an additional Practice Lead (North) who will work alongside the Senior Manager – Therapeutic Services and the Practice Lead (South) to continuously improve service delivery across the Stronger Family program.
We are seeking a Practice Lead to be based in the Northern Metro area to support our teams in Salisbury and some regional areas – note some travel to regional areas will be required.
The Practice Lead’s role will include the clinical supervision of Case Managers across the Stronger Families program. Providing the team with support for ongoing complex case work, ensuring the integration of theories and best practice concepts into case work as well as liaising with partner agencies such as DCP. They will also undertake project work and will be involved in evaluating and preparing reports in line with AFSS Model of Practice.
Who we are looking for
Experience providing high quality supervision and case direction to teams
Extensive understanding of the Child Protection system and Legislation is South Australia
Experience in working with Aboriginal families and in particular providing family support to families who have experienced or are experiencing acute trauma and/or loss
Ability to work with multiple stakeholders
You will also need the following to be successful
- Prior experience and demonstrated knowledge in family support and complex case management
- A Working with Children Check (WWCC), NDIS worker clearance and National Police Check
- A Safe Environments for Children and Young People - Through their Eyes Certificate (Formerly CSE)
- Unrestricted eligibility to work in Australia
- A current South Australian Drivers Licence
- Confirmation of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or medical exemption

Ideally you will also have
- A degree in Social Work, or similar with significant leadership experience; or
- Training and experience in specific therapeutic approaches like Solution Focused Therapy or Narrative Therapy
