Geraldton Eye Surgery are seeking a casual or part-time Practice Nurse to join our team. The role has a strong clinical focus and whilst prior ophthalmic experience (such as optometry assistant, orthoptist or technician) is desirable it is not essential as hands-on training will be provided to the successful applicant. Patient care and high-level communication is at the forefront of our organization.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Screening patients before our doctor sees them - checking their vision, intraocular pressure and obtaining a brief relevant medical history
- Administering eye drops
- Preparing for in clinic minor procedures - injections, eyelid minor procedures
- Performing eye tests - biometry, visual field testing, OCT testing
- Clinical audits
- Perform first dressings following surgery
Skills and experience:
- Possess general experience of medical/hospital practice and techniques
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing/Medical imaging or equivalent
- Have excellent patient interaction skills, and be empathetic in your approach to people
- Have experience with Genie software or similar (desirable but not essential)
- Be technically minded and comfortable using computer and diagnostic machinery
- Ophthalmic or optical experience is a bonus, but not required
- This role would be suitable for either an enrolled or registered nurse, or an experienced optical dispenser.
