About this Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Principal Advisor, Aviation Safety, Quality and Compliance will be accountable for oversight of the governance, risk, and Compliance of Aviation Safety. The role's primary function is to provide independent advice on the effectiveness of the aviation component of the overall Safety, Quality and Risk Management System (SMS). Inherent to this role is the provision of expert guidance and advice in relation to all aspects of Aviation Safety, quality, and risk, as they relate to aviation regulatory requirements, ensuring independence and Compliance.

Specifically, you will:

• Provide evidence-based advice to the accountable manager for the overall RFDS SA/NT SMS on Aviation Safety.
• Provide independent advice on the effectiveness of the overall RFDS SA/NT SMS as it relates to Aviation Safety.
• Liaise with CASA and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) on Aviation Safety and quality related issues to ensure current best practice understanding and application.
• Deliver expert advice and guidance to enable successful management of operational Aviation Safety within the construct of the SMS.
• Represent RFDS SA/NT at professional Aviation Safety forums.
• Contribute to the RFDS SA/NT safety promotion and communication plan as appropriate for Aviation Safety awareness.
• Champion safety whenever possible throughout the organisation.
• Ensure Leaders within the organisation receive timely, accurate and expert advice.
• Enable analysis of operational Aviation Safety data for governance requirements
• Guarantee consistency and accuracy in reporting Aviation Safety matters.
• Ensure the implementation of any Aviation Safety finding, and/or corrective action is compliant with regulations.

About You
You have:

• Proven achievements in a safety aviation role in a complex organisational environment.
• Excellent business partnering capability demonstrated through high levels of communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Sound understanding and knowledge of the senior roles within Aviation.
• A proven record of achievement in Aviation Safety, quality, and Compliance, including:

o exposure to the commercial aviation environment
o regulatory understanding
o regulatory body relationships
o regulatory reporting requirements

• Previous experience in a CASR Part 135 organisation would be desirable

To be considered for the role you require:

• Eligibility to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualifications in an Aviation area (desirable)
