The Role
The Principal Economic Analyst position plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of Skills First by:
- Consolidating existing methodologies and instruments to meet the unique needs of Victoria's regional communities and niche occupations.
- Reviewing and updating the Regional and Specialist Training List.
- Conducting key stakeholder consultations to refine the list.
- Designing methodologies to facilitate the allocation process.
The Team
The position of Principal Economic Analyst forms a part of the Skills & Employment / Policy and Strategy Branch.

Policy and Strategy Branch (PSB) leads the policy settings, performance monitoring and budget management for the Victorian Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. PSB partners across jurisdictions to influence strong skills outcomes though a contemporary national VET system.
About You
The successful applicant will be highly developed in the area of statistical analysis and data modelling to help manage, identify and present implications and issues to senior executives and ministers to inform decision making across the Policy and Strategy Branch.
Additionally, a successful applicant will be expected to formulate and communicate public policy options and recommendations, whilst seeking all relevant information to ensure problems and issues are identified and are analysed from different perspectives to ensure outcomes are successful.
