Our Opportunity

Work Location: Perth. Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

As a Principal Category Management, you are someone who is passionate, honest, enthusiastic, and willing to step up to the challenge of being part of an innovative and achievement driven organisation.

The purpose of the Principal Category Management is to provide specialist procurement advice on a category/range of categories to assist stakeholders to plan, develop, source, and manage procurement arrangements to meet organisational and business objectives effectively and efficiently. Additionally, the Principal Category Management will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to team members in the categories under management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leading the execution to deliver enhanced commercial outcomes and innovative solutions.
  • Contract management - guides, directs, and mentors team members in contract management duties.
  • Supplier relationship management (SRM) - deliver value through effective management of strategic supplier relationships at a senior or Executive level. Actively articulates and demonstrates the value of SRM in the business.
  • Category management and strategic sourcing - provide oversight to team members in regard to the development of category strategies and effectively managing the end-to-end sourcing process.
  • Negotiating - lead the development of negotiation strategies for complex, high risk and high value contracts, which drive value for Fortescue and our supplier partners.
  • Governance and risk management - ensure business objectives are met through effective governance, compliance management and the identification, assessment, and treatment of risk.
  • Analysis & reporting - effective analysis and reporting of relevant data at all stages of the procurement lifecycle.
  • Business partnering - create and maintain credible and trusting relationships with internal stakeholders at a senior management level.
  • Commercial acumen - demonstrates intimate knowledge of how Fortescue's assets operate and their needs, opportunities, and limitations. Is highly capable of creating commercial strategy and solutions fully optimised given this knowledge.
  • Provide mentoring and leadership to members of the team.
Qualifications and Experience
  • 7-10 years' experience in a fast-paced procurement function.
  • Demonstrate an alignment to all of Fortescue's values.
  • Effectively self-manage with an ability to efficiently manage priorities.
  • Leadership capability and the capacity to mentor and develop senior category specialists, category specialists and officers.
  • Show a level of resilience to challenging circumstances.
  • Demonstrate how your experience to date will positively contribute to you being successful in this role.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Commerce, Law or similar (including a CIPS qualification) and Graduate Degrees in Supply Chain, Business or Commerce is desirable.
