About the Opportunity
The Office of Energy & Climate Change (OECC), Energy Operations Branch, is calling for applications for a Principal Energy Emergency Management Officer. This assignment presents a great opportunity to diversify your experience and work in an operational and very well-connected team within government, support the net zero and climate change transition across the state and participate in the state's extensive Emergency Management arrangements.
This opportunity is unique and different to other government roles, it will broaden your understanding of the real-world complexities in critical infrastructure sectors, strengthen your knowledge of energy infrastructure, support multi-jurisdictional Emergency Management governance and policy work, foster and develop your stakeholder management skills and all-in-all provide a very direct and tangible service to the community.
About the role
The role coordinates with energy and utility asset owners, Emergency Service Organisations (such as NSW Police, SES and RFS), Functional Areas and other government departments on the prevention, preparedness, response and recovery phases of Emergency Management in an energy and utility context. The role fosters commitment and co-operation amongst diverse federal, state and private organisations, and coordinates information in response to significant energy service interruptions which impact the NSW community.
The Principal Energy Emergency Management Officer will be a lead in multi-jurisdictional Energy Emergency governance and policy initiatives and support effective preparations of the energy sector to the increasing impacts of climate change and cyber security.
You will be part of an effective and efficient team that works across the electricity, gas, liquid fuels and water/wastewater sectors, preparing for and responding to emergencies and incidents caused by any number of hazards, such as flood, bushfire, cyber-attack, heatwave and supply chains.
The team fulfills day-to-day and week-to-week task and responsibilities, as well as leading key projects to better prepare NSW for potential energy emergencies, particularly in the electricity and gas sectors and the interdependencies.
Operationally you will be part of the Emergency Management team that can be deployed to Emergency Operations Centres and support OECC executives in the case of significant incidents and emergencies.
About You
We are seeking a proactive and confident team player able to lead and manage tasks through to completion, and able synthesise complex information into verbal and written briefings to executives.
A strong foundation in the energy and/or utility sectors is desired. Operational or industry experience with critical infrastructure is highly valued.

Essential Requirements
Relevant degree qualifications, or over 5 years of experience in the energy sectors working in operational, technical and/or leadership roles.
Desirable Requirements
Extensive knowledge of electricity and/or gas operations, systems or markets
Experience in Emergency Management

The Office of Energy and Climate Change (OECC) was established in the Treasury Cluster in April 2022 and consists of the Energy, Climate Change & Sustainability (ECCS) and the Energy Corporation of NSW ( ).
