About the Role :

We are working with a range of clients in Government, Retail, Utilities, Finance and Logistics and are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Engineer to join our team.

As the Data, Reporting, and AI Principal Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in driving the development and implementation of cutting-edge data, reporting, and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions within our organization. This multifaceted role requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in data engineering, reporting and AI technologies, coupled with excellent leadership and communication skills.

We are in the early stages of executing our Digital Strategy, so as the Principal Engineer in the team, you will be at the forefront of technological innovation and delivery, influencing the strategic direction of our data, reporting and AI initiatives.

As the Principal Engineer you will :

• Design, implement, and optimise robust data pipelines for efficient data extraction, transformation and processing in both batch and real time.
  
• Deliver high-quality analytical solutions that balance long-term goals with short-term needs.
  
• Lead the implementation of advanced reporting and visualisation solutions, leveraging cutting-edge reporting data models and technologies.
  
• Work with Data Scientists to deliver AI and machine learning solutions that produce predictive, prescriptive and generative insights driving innovation in data-driven decision-making.
  
• Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance the organisation's data, reporting and AI capabilities.
  
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, architects, data scientists, and business stakeholders, to understand requirements and deliver end-to-end solutions.
  
• Provide strategic direction, leadership and mentoring to a cross-functional team of engineers.

Key Skills and Attributes Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
  
• Minimum 10 years experience in a senior engineering role leading the build of data, reporting and AI solutions.
  
• Demonstrable experience building and using modern Data Lake, Data Warehouse and Data Science platforms
  
• Experience delivering solutions that power omni-channel customer experiences across digital and contact center channels.
  
• Hands on experience with analytical technologies being used at scale, including depth in the following areas:
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
    
  • Azure and AWS cloud services including AWS S3, Lambda, RedShift, SageMaker and Bedrock. Azure Blob Storage, Data Factory, Synapse, OpenAI.
    
  • Analytical platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, Jupyter Notebooks, PowerBI.
    
  • In-depth knowledge of data processing technologies including Spark and Kafka
    
  • Understanding of Data Modelling techniques including Data Vault 2.0 and Dimensional Data Models.
    
  • Data governance using tools like Collibra or Alation
    
  • Use of Okta, OAuth and Active Directory identity and access management
    
  • Experience with DevOps using tools like Git, Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation
    
  • Containerisation and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes
    
• Australian based role |Melbourne CBD or Sydney
