Principal Engineer - Test & Calibration

Roster: 5/2 roster

In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Heavy Industry projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet and rail locomotives.

• Lead a dynamic and diverse team to manage all the software and electronics hardware verification & validation activities that help deliver cutting-edge technology to the market across multiple projects within the Heavy Industry sector.
• Collaborate with product owners and system leads in formalising testing requirements and specifications.
• Lead the establishment of a comprehensive software testing frameworks and processes, including software verification & validation plan and software release management plan, ensuring consistent adoption across various product development programs.
• Lead the team for electronics hardware verification and validation activities and the creation of all the testing processes and traceability records.
• Lead the creation of Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Model-in-the-loop (MIL) and Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setup and configuration for the control systems software testing.
• Lead the calibration activities for electric powertrain and internal combustion engines, including calibration verification and validation plans, calibration release process plan.
• Manage resource requirements in collaboration with project delivery and recruitment teams.
• Provide insights for project scoping, planning and budgeting.

• Bachelor of Engineering degree with over 10 years of experience in a leadership role in software and hardware testing and development.
• Proven expertise in software verification and validation management and software release management
• Experience with full software development lifecycle, including documentation, requirements, testing and traceability.
• Experience with testing software applications for physical devices.
• Understanding of electronics hardware testing is highly advantageous.
• Experience with CI/CD and test automation.
• Experience with software version control systems such as GitHub or SVN.
• Experience with project collobaration and documentation tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop systems, such as dSpace and Speedgoat, is highly advantageous.
• Experience with Model-Based Design with tools like MATLAB/Simulink is highly advantageous.
• Experience with calibration tools, such as Vector CANalyser and CANoe, is highy advantageous.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a passion for identifying issues and addressing issues.
• Ability to apply creative thinking to solve complex problems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
