About the role

As Principal Engineer (Traffic Operations) you will use your expert technical and engineering experience to deliver complex projects. You will be part of the Transport and Traffic team and responsible for managing high-level traffic programs, including Council’s traffic management activities, traffic operations and road safety.

Working in a growing and vibrant region like Ipswich, this role provides the opportunity to share new ideas and innovative solutions to improve the city's traffic operations and directly impact the liveability of the city.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• provide high level input, advice and coordination of Council’s traffic management activities to ensure the safe and efficient operation of Council’s transport network
• manage complex investigations and analysis of road infrastructure to identify deficiencies and determine remedial treatments to improve road safety and traffic movement efficiency
• manage the operation and enhancement of the City’s Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) network
• manage, develop, and implement a Road Safety Audit Program that systematically and strategically targets projects and roads for auditing in the planning, design, construction and operation stages to ensure safety deficiencies are identified
• initiate and direct local area traffic improvement schemes and road safety audits in accordance with relevant standards
• manage and provide prompt attention to public and Councillor requests relating to traffic management and road safety matters
• manage and implement policies and strategies relating to road safety, traffic management and parking

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

• bachelor's degree from a recognised tertiary institution in engineering
• extensive experience in the traffic engineering profession some of which has been in a local government environment.
• possess and maintain the status of Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ)
• an excellent fit with our values of communication, collaboration, integrity, efficiency, and leadership

About the benefits

This is a permanent full time position, Level 8, with a salary between $121,294 and $136,864 plus superannuation of up to 12.5%.
