About the Role:

This position is located in Mexico City and reports to Woodside’s Head of Compliance International. The successful applicant will support further implementation of the company’s Ethics & Compliance program in the Mexican operations (Woodside Petroleo Operaciones de Mexico - “Woodside Mexico”). This includes further embedding the prevention, detection and mitigation of fraud and corruption risk, in support of Woodside’s Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC) Policy, Code of Conduct and Fraud & Corruption Control Procedure.

 

Key responsibilities include: 

 

  • Drive awareness and delivery of Ethics & Compliance (E&C) standards, requirements, and obligations in Woodside Mexico including all aspects of the Trion Project and all compliance legal requirements.

  • Provide support and work closely with the Legal team to ensure compliance with Mexican, U.S., Australian and other applicable laws. 

  • Maintain and refine Woodside’s International third-party ABC due diligence program, including guidelines, processes, tools, training, and monitoring relating to Woodside Mexico.

  • Conduct due diligence in relation to suppliers, customers, social investments, donations, new business opportunities, joint venture partners, and other activities.

  • Foster critical relationships with PEMEX’s compliance team and share best practices in ABC compliance. 

  • Anticipate potential corruption or bribery issues and mitigate risks ahead of activities including Shorebase operations, Mexico office, EPC/OEM Contractors.

  • Assist in maintaining Woodside’s company-wide fraud, bribery, and corruption risk management program across the value chain.

  • Support Business and Functions with issues such as review of conflicts of interest declarations, gifts and entertainment, sponsored travel etc. 

  • Provide E&C guidance for New Energy, M&A, Exploration & Development, and operations activities in Mexico. 

  • Assist with fraud and corruption risk assessments – at a global, country, and functional process level.

  • Coordinate and deliver Ethics & Compliance training sessions, as well as report on training metrics.  

  • Interface with joint venturers in relation to non-operator exposures and facilitate the mutual management of ABC risks and influence best practice where possible.

  • Provide governance advice within the Business and promote the ABC Policy, Code of Conduct and Fraud & Corruption Control Procedure.

  • Respond to, and investigate concerns, disclosures or incidents concerning fraud or corruption, or unethical business conduct, in line with established policies and procedures.

  • Engage external due diligence providers, as appropriate. 

  • Maintain awareness of international bribery and corruption events, actions, and best practices.

  • Provide support to the Investigations function when required.

 

The Principal Ethics & Compliance International position will join an eleven-person global team and a six-person regional team in Houston, Texas to support Woodside’s International Business from Mexico City, Mexico.  
 

Skills & Experience:

The successful applicant for this role will have: 

 

  • Bachelor of Business Administration or equivalent degree. 

  • Law degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in Mexico preferred. 

  • Fluency in Spanish and English business proficiency.

  • Strong knowledge of international ABC laws, business conduct and compliance best practices.

  • Ability to support the Trion Project leadership team, VP Trion, Mexico Country Manager, local Legal in-house counsel and Corporate Affairs team.

  • Ability to build and foster networks and long-term relationships including with the Business and Functions.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.  

  • Excellent project management skills, with proven ability to drive forward multiple complex projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to develop interpersonal relations and judgment skills, guiding senior management and influencing outcomes, taking a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach to balancing compliance risk with commercial objectives.

  • Ability to navigate sensitive and confidential scenarios with discretion and precision.

  • Good business acumen, including sound understanding of commercial and legal considerations.

  • Thorough attention to detail.

  • Strong report writing capability. 

  • Ability to utilize Woodside’s ERP system and technology platforms.

  • Ability to navigate time zones and attend evening meetings when required due to time zone differences. 

  • Strong awareness of audit, control and risk practices.

  • Ability to travel internationally.
