The role would suit an experienced lawyer with sound judgement, strong leadership credentials and a passion for upholding the human rights of people with disability. To be successful in the role, you must thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment and enjoy juggling multiple competing and constantly evolving priorities. You will need to be comfortable working and leading in an environment of uncertainty and constant change, because of the pace at which the Commission is expanding and evolving its functions. To understand more about the impact and purpose of this role, you may wish to look at the recommendations made by the 2023 Independent Review into the National Disability Insurance Scheme, and the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.
The successful candidates will have:

• Strong track record in delivering, and leading the delivery of, consistent and timely high quality legal services in a fast paced, constantly evolving and complex environment, with a strong focus on client service and working collaboratively to achieve results.
• Demonstrated creative thinking and pragmatic approach to resolving complex issues, complemented by sound judgement.
• Demonstrated ability to build organisational capability, including experience in driving changes to organisational processes, systems and culture.
• Demonstrated high emotional intelligence and excellent people skills, including the ability to build and nurture productive working relationships and engender trust and respect in a complex, high-pressured and sensitive environment; and
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams, coach and mentor staff to elicit high performance, and manage underperformance.

In addition, the following are mandatory requirements for the role:

• Admitted as a legal practitioner in the High Court or a Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory; and hold, or be eligible to hold, a restricted practicing certificate issued by the Law Society of a State or Territory; and
