Working within In-house Legal, you will be involved in providing legal advice, representation, and other legal services within the Business and Corporate Partnership model to three agencies – Department of Resources, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and Department of Environment, Science and Innovation.   • Manage and undertake prosecutions in relation to breaches of the Planning Act 2016 and the Vegetation Management Act 1999 with minimal supervision.
  • Manage and undertake statutory appeal and tribunal related litigation with minimal supervision.
  • Provide high level, expert oral and written legal advice and solutions on complex and sensitive legal matters to all staff within the three agencies up to Director-General and Ministerial level.
  • Appear as an advocate and instruct external legal service providers in appeals and prosecutions, including in hearings and summary trials, pleas, directions hearings, mediations and mentions in various courts and tribunals particularly in the Magistrates Court but also in the District Court, Land Court and QCAT.
  • Effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines, including reporting on litigation to the Minister, Director-General and other senior managers.
  • Liaise with external legal providers to ensure a consistent, coordinated and cost[1]effective approach to the provision of legal services across the three agencies.
  • Provide leadership in the team and support the Director (Appeals and Prosecutions) including by providing high quality supervision and mentoring to peers and junior lawyers.
This position requires:
  • Bachelor of Laws Degree; and
  • Admission, or eligibility for immediate admission to the legal profession as a barrister, solicitor, or Australian lawyer in the Supreme Court of Queensland.
