Are you an experienced lawyer ready to take on a key position managing the delivery of legal services to communities in the Townsville region. As Principal Lawyer, you will lead a busy team of legal and administrative staff to provide efficient and effective services to the community including legal information and advice and representation in family and civil cases, including duty lawyer services in the family and civil law courts.
This contract is until 30 June 2025, with the possibility of extension.
What you will do
The successful candidate will play an integral role in the following:
- Manage and supervise a team of professional and administrative staff
- Lead, monitor and report on the operational performance of the family law team and ensure compliance with professional and corporate responsibilities
- Supervise legal work and develop the skills of, train and guide staff within the team and within LAQ
- Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders in the justice system and allied sectors
About you: The successful candidate will have:
- Experience in managing and supervising a team of professional and administrative staff
- Experience in leading and delivering legal services and meeting organisational objectives while fostering a healthy and inclusive workplace
- Extensive experience in the conduct of complex family law, domestic and family violence and child protection related matters including advocacy, preparation for and attendance at final hearing
- The ability to present in a clear, concise and articulate manner in both oral and written formats and communicate effectively with clients with complex needs and internal and external stakeholders
