This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced legal professional to help progress Legal Aid Queensland's vision through collaboration and policy leadership. As the Principal Lawyer (Strategic Policy) in the Executive Services, you will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Management Team to lead policy on issues affecting our service delivery and contribute to government policy development.

What you will do
Lead and manage cross-divisional projects and processes to resolve key policy or service delivery issues.
Review media, legal and social science publications, and research to identify legal issues of potential relevance to Legal Aid Queensland and its service delivery.
Research, analyse and provide strategic advice to the Board, CEO and Executive Management Team in relation to wide-ranging policy issues and options in the legal and justice systems.
In consultation with the relevant divisions of the organisation:
prepare policy papers, submissions, briefs, and other material in response to requests for policy input from governments, statutory agencies, and other legal and justice stakeholders, including technical submissions on proposed legislation and regulations.
prepare proposals for proactive and responsive public policy projects for consideration by the CEO and undertake approved policy projects.
You will have
You have a degree in Law or are admitted or are eligible for immediate admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland.
A proven ability to provide strategic advice on wide ranging, complex policy and legislative matters
High level knowledge of the practice and procedure of law | Practical experience of legal and justice matters related to Legal Aid Queensland's service delivery will be highly regarded.
An ability to build and sustain relationships with a network of key stakeholders to work toward mutually beneficial outcomes.
