Objectives
Contribute to the safe, secure, and reliable functioning of the Tasmanian power system by providing technical leadership in the management, identification, and resolution of existing and emerging technical issues across both planning and operational time-frames.Be a recognised expert and trusted source of advice on matters related to power system dynamics in a landscape of rapidly evolving technologies, new technical phenomena, and changing regulatory frameworks.Demonstrate and actively support the achievement of technical excellence within the business and enhance the client’s reputation by displaying a high level of proficiency, professionalism, and enthusiasm in the role.Role Specific AccountabilitiesDefine, oversee, and undertake steady-state and dynamic stability studies using a range of power system simulation and analysis tools available within the client.Manage the development of network limit advice that is consistent with the technical requirements of the National Electricity Rules (NER) and Frequency Operating Standards (FOS).Identify and manage the ongoing requirements for Emergency Frequency Control (EFC) Schemes and System Protection Schemes (SPS), including their technical specifications and performance requirements.Contribute to the strategic planning of the Tasmanian power system, including future modelling requirements.Provide leadership and direction aimed at preserving and maintaining a wide range of corporate knowledge bases to capture information of critical technical and/or commercial importance to the client.Manage the quality and accuracy of control room documentation, including system operating procedures and standing instructions relevant to the scope of Operations Planning.Provide expert advice to the network control rooms, the Outage Planning Team, and NOCS Team as required.To be successful in this roleTertiary qualifications in Electrical Power Engineering, supported by extensive industry involvement.A minimum of 15 years’ practical experience in the analysis of transmission networks in a planning or operational role, preferably in a market setting.High levels of proficiency across a range of industry-standard software packages, most critically PSS/E.A sound understanding of electrical power system theory, power system security management, network protection, and control scheme design and implementation, as well as technical requirements relevant to the design and operation of high-voltage transmission networks.Extensive practical experience and theoretical understanding of the NEM or similar markets, the NER or similar grid codes, and the functions performed by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).Experience with a broad range of power system technologies, including primary and secondary substation assets, renewable energy systems, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission, and FACTS devices, including their representation within power system analysis software packages.Ab to manage self as well as project teams, including less experienced engineers and graduates, to deliver work packages on time and on scope to meet business needs.High levels of business acumen, critical thinking aptitude, risk management, and negotiation skills.A sound understanding of commercial and legal issues that impact the development and operation of electricity networks, including the formation and management of contracts for the provision of various services.What you need to do now If you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV ***************@hays.com.au, or call us now +61 3 6108 5519.
