About Potash

The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon.  BHP’s CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles. 

Jansen's construction will take place over several years with first production planned for late 2026. Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. Purpose

The Principal Project Controls & Analysis – Studies will be part of the Jansen Project Controls & Analysis team that delivers value to the portfolio of executing projects in Potash by enabling a positive culture through a highly engaged workforce and visible leadership of BHP’s Charter Values.

About the Role

Principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting and guiding the delivery of the Potash Studies portfolio of work as part of the Asset strategy, through the application of broad multi-disciplined Project Controls experience.
  • Defining project objectives/schedules, identifying critical activities, monitoring the project plan/schedule and driving continuous improvement initiatives across projects at BHP.
  • Applying and evaluating change management tools, methods, data, purpose, value and strategic direction.
  • Planning, tracking the delivery of and managing a project to generate value and driving the achievement of project outcomes.
  • Planning, structuring and developing technical reports that are clear to both technical and non-technical audiences to deliver clear conclusions and recommendations.
  • Applying an understanding of the business context, BHP operating model and ways of working to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance.

About You

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field (Construction Management; Business; Finance; Engineering) or equivalent experience is required.
  • Cognate experience within construction projects team or equivalent environment.
  • Experience from the industrial sector including, but not limited to, the mining, manufacturing, construction, agriculture, forestry, power/utilities, transportation and/or oil & gas industries.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, time management and prioritization attributes.
  • Ability to build strong network across a diverse set of project functions with a robust reputation and an excellent track record of broader stakeholder activity.
  • Strong influencing skills with an ability to interface across the entire project team.
  • Experience in capital projects spanning different phases would be considered an asset.
  • Any other relevant professional qualifications related to project planning or cost engineering will also be considered an asset.

Work Location

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.
BHP offers relocation assistance to
support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required.
