About the Role
The Strategic Planning branch is responsible for the development of integrated strategic land use planning policy, including the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme, shaping the future of the region in a way that reflects the strategic direction of Council and ensures compliance with relevant legislation.
The Principal Strategic Planner develops integrated land use policy that reflects Council’s vision for sustainable growth management and forward planning, working in consultation with the community, other departments and State Government agencies.
- Manage or contribute to the process for making or amending planning schemes under relevant state planning legislation and associated guidelines and rules.
- Prepare, manage or contribute to the development of strategic land use plans, strategies, and policies to meet the objectives of Council.
- Develop or contribute to the preparation of local area structure plans, master plans and development plans for designated planning projects.
- Undertake leading edge research and prepare technical reports on the findings.
- Assess the impacts of major strategic projects, including the impacts on Council’s adopted policies and plans and identification of key issues.
This position is based at the Sunshine Coast City Hall, in the heart of Maroochydore CBD. This state of the art and sustainable building is designed to achieve an innovative and collaborative workspace.
About you
As a Principal Strategic Planner, you will have demonstrated experience in drafting or amending planning instruments such as planning schemes and planning scheme policies.
You will have extensive experience in the overall structure and operation of a large local government, the political environment, and its role in environmental sustainability and growth management.
You will possess demonstrated successful experience in land use planning, analysis, investigation and strategy development relevant to strategic planning including proficiency in project management to define and negotiate project scope, methodology, resourcing, statistical and technical data analysis.
As a requirement of this role, you will have a recognised tertiary qualification that satisfies membership status (or eligibility to become a member) of the Planning Institute of Australia.
