PERTH OFFICE
South32's corporate office is based in the heart of Perth's CBD. The corporate office houses key functions, including HR, Legal and External Affairs, Finance, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk, and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a permanent, full-time position, Monday -Friday. This role will preferably be based at our corporate office in the heart of the Perth CBD. We understand and value the benefits flexibility brings and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home)
As the Principal Employee Relations you will provide support to the HR Leadership Team to develop and execute short / medium / long term ER strategies consistent with current and future trends in ER / IR practice. The Principal Employee Relations develops and maintains appropriate governance structures to ensure compliance with Workplace Relations legislation and global consistency.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:
- Assist in the delivery of Workplace Relations activities globally.
- Contribute to the development of Workplace Relations policy, standards and reporting requirements
- Assist in managing complex cases regarding employee conduct
- Represent South32 in internal and external engagements, dispute and arbitrations as required
- Report and analyse Workplace Relations metrics for South32
- Assist with the management of EthicsPoint governance and reporting of Code of Business Conduct activities
- Assist with the management of material and non-material risks, as they pertain to Workplace Relations, that can impact our ability to achieve our purpose, strategy, and business plan
- Partner with People and Culture team to provide support and implement key employment changes which may influence the employee - employer relationship or increase Workplace Relations risk
- Facilitate the interpretation and implementation of Company employment arrangements, policies, procedures, and applicable employment legislation
- Maintain relationships with key external stakeholders (e.g., union bodies, external legal providers)
- Support development of the capability of functional leaders to manage Workplace Relations activities
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Comprehensive understanding of Workplace Relations legal and regulatory requirements and the ability to interpret and explain complex legal regulations, policies, or procedure to a diverse group of stakeholders
- Awareness of Occupational Health and Safety and Workers Compensation requirements
- Experienced in risk management and governance coupled with proficient expertise in developing and implementing Workplace Relations policies and practices. Highly developed negotiation, written, and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven track record as a skilled advisor in challenging environments, drawing from significant Workplace Relations experience and in-depth knowledge of industrial and employee relations.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and influence senior leaders across the business network, partnering with them to translate business strategies into practical and workable solutions.
- Extensive hands-on experience in handling complex and technical employee relations matters, coupled with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, fostering strong internal and external relationships through a partner service ethic.
Qualifications for this position are:
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
