Process Safety Analyst
- $128,755.00 per annum + superannuation
- Full Time, ongoing position
- Melbourne CBD location (Hybrid working model)
Purpose
The Process Safety Analyst manages the application of a safety case regulatory regime to a number of Victorian major hazard facilities at various stages of the regulatory process. This includes Safety Case preparation, Safety Case compliance assessment, and oversight of safety performance after licensing. Working within the Chemical Safety Outreach team, the analyst will assist the broader program with community engagement and consultation aspects of the Major Hazards team functions. This can include working with other regulators, hazard working groups, community stakeholders, and local councils.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan, manage and lead the assessment of Safety Case submissions from major hazard facilities for compliance with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 using the appropriate procedures from the WorkSafe internal Business Management System related to Safety Case Assessment
- Assist Operators of registered major hazard facilities improve safety performance by exploring issues and developing practical strategies and means of assistance such as providing guidance on specific improvements as well as contributing to broader industry guidance material
- Participate in projects to improve hazardous industries safety performance
- Provide guidance in areas of specific expertise to Operators of major hazard facilities and other members of the Safety Analyst team
- Develop new or improved procedures for the regulatory duties of the analyst team, to be executed in a constructive, accountable, transparent and effective manner
- Represent WorkSafe at relevant stakeholder and technical forums, dealing with major hazard facilities and related technical Process Safety issues
- Provide technical support to the investigation of the causes of serious accidents and incidents involving major hazard facilities or related technical Process Safety issues
- Accountable for creating and capturing accurate and complete records of the business activities related to this position, in accordance with approved policy and procedures. This is applicable to both hardcopy and electronic information, including email

About you
- 5 years of relevant experience with Process Safety or a relevant safety discipline
- Having experience with or working within the requirements of section 5.2 of the OHS Regulations
- An understanding of technical Process Safety relevant to chemicals management and prevention of major hazard incidents
- Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation, presentation and communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and conceptual skills and proven problem solving skills
- Appropriate qualifications in science, engineering or process chemistry and some operational experience required
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills and the ability to undertake effective research and analysis and produce accurate reports and material
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
Qualifications
- You will have tertiary qualifications and/or significant equivalent experience relevant to the major hazards industry or a similiar industry (such as aviation, mining, chemical manufacturing, explosives)
