The Finance and Procurement section is responsible for the provision of high quality, timely and accurate financial and procurement advice and services to the National Archives while ensuring it meets its legislative and compliance financial framework obligations.

Under limited direction the main duties of APS 6 Procurement and Contract Officer are to:
- Provide quality, accurate and timely procurement advice to stakeholders to ensure compliance in accordance with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules and the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act.
- Work with business areas to identify procurement needs, and encourage early engagement, alongside decision makers to ensure procurements are effective, promote proper use of resources, and deliver value for money.
- Develop and maintain documentation for internal use that is easy to use and consistent with better practices.
- Create, update and maintain procurement records in Tech One and BuyICT.
- Create, update and maintain Austender approaches to market, panel arrangements and reporting obligations.
- Work with stakeholders to ensure that contracts are properly managed, reported internally and externally.
- Provide contract management and contract relationship support internally to the National Archives.
- In conjunction with procurement team members, act as a centre of excellence for procurement activities undertaken by the National Archives of Australia.
- Promote and apply the National Archives' Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in The Archives Way.
- Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity principles, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
