About the role
We seek a Production Chemist, for a full-time role, to work in our production facility on day shift, based in Ringwood.
Reporting to the GC Capillary Column Production Lead, this role will be responsible for a variety of tasks including the synthesis of materials to be used as stationary phases, the improvement of synthetic procedures of existing materials, the manufacturing, testing/evaluation of capillary columns and be of assistance in all relevant areas with performance and quality issues for all GC Column products.
Key responsibilities include:
- Synthesis and modification of existing polymer materials to match performance requirements.
- Development of procedures for the reproducible synthesis of phases of interest to Trajan.
- Synthesis of other materials such as coatings and adhesives, and improvements to existing materials.
- Manufacturing and evaluation/testing of columns that are of potential interest to Trajan.
- Summary reports to assess the status of projects on regular basis as well as providing monthly reports.
- Maintenance of stocks of required starting materials to the required level and quality.
- Working with key polymer supplier(s) to ensure consistent and robust materials supply.
- Maintenance of up-to-date and detailed records according to ISO 9001requirements.
The ideal candidate will possess:
Previous experience in a laboratory or manufacturing with an emphasis on:
- Ideally relevant experience working in a similar environment or an Honours Degree in Organic Chemistry with experience in synthetic Chemistry or polymer synthesis or related discipline.
- An underlying understanding of and some experience in the areas of gas and gel permeation chromatography.
- Ability to communicate well at all levels within and outside the company.
- High degree of problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a group as required.
- Methodical and meticulous approach to work with an eye for detail
