This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024

The School Of Special Educational Needs: Sensory (SSEN: S) is seeking a dedicated and innovative Program Coordinator to join their team.

SSEN: S provides educational support for children with hearing loss, vision impairment or dual sensory loss in both public and non-government schools across Western Australia. The staff strive to meet the individual needs of learners by providing educational support for children and students while supporting schools to provide fully accessible learning environments, curriculum and school communities. Educational support is available across the public school and non-government system, from birth to Year 12. SSEN: S is part of a network of specialist schools which operate under the Statewide Services pillar of Service Delivery.

This position requires the successful applicant to support the delivery of SSEN: S services in collaboration with the Principal and members of the administrative team, providing educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision, and encouraging school staff, volunteers from the community and others to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals.

The successful applicant should contribute to the development of the school plan through participative decision making, including assisting in developing policy and establishing and maintaining systems. This includes day to day management, professional development, project management and teaching.

Experience in providing expert advice and support to schools in developing and implementing targeted programs, plans, strategies and approaches for improving student achievement will be highly regarded.

The successful applicant should display the ability to lead, communicate effectively and maintain a climate of respect and fairness in supporting staff. In this role, you will support specialist staff in the Performance and Development process including coaching, mentoring, observations and facilitating professional discussions promoting best practice.

With many hubs located in the metropolitan areas, and across the state, this position may involve the successful applicant travelling. Applicants should hold and maintain a current WA drivers licence.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.  

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
  • Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
