This is a six (6) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024 with possible extension (30 months). 

Looma Remote Community School (RCS) is seeking to appoint an energetic and motivated Program Coordinator – Inclusion to join their friendly team.

About the Role

As the Education Support Coordinator, you will provide educational leadership in the school and the community. Your role will be instrumental in developing and promoting the school vision and supporting school staff in implementing evidence-based practices for students with special education needs, thereby making a significant difference in their lives.

The Education Support Coordinator will have the opportunity to facilitate workforce effectiveness and provide professional learning for staff and community. This role is designed to improve student outcomes while fostering your professional growth and development.

A key part to this role will be to apply for Individual Disability Allocation (IDA), including accessing, attaining and maintaining the funds to make teaching and learning adjustments to meet the school's obligations under disability legislation. 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Special Education Needs Planning and Reporting to Parents.
  • Case management of diagnosed special education needs (SEN) students.
  • Support National Disability Insurance Scheme and interagency collaboration within the school.
  • Implement and support whole school evidence-based practices to support SEN students.
  • Lead, manage and build capacity within the Education Assistant Special Needs team.
  • Liaise extensively with the Principal, Deputy Principals, and relevant specialist staff.
  • Undertake a teaching role, of up to 0.7FTE.

Looma Community is built at the base of the picturesque Grant Range, and the school enjoys magnificent vistas of the surrounding hills and rock formations that give Looma its name.  It is in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, approximately 130 km southeast of Derby, some 30 km south of the main Derby to Fitzroy Crossing Highway.

Looma Community is relatively young, having been established in the 1970s, and has developed steadily in a short period of time.  The population comprises of three major groups: Walmajarri, Nyikina, and Mangala.

The name 'Looma' is Walmajarri for 'blue tongue lizard' and the lizard is the school and community logo.  A traditional legend traces the history of a 'Looma,’ which travelled from Christmas Creek with its children to escape a big flood.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
  • Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
