The Office of the Deputy Secretary is a small team that provides essential administrative and strategic support to the Deputy Secretary, including the provision of strategic advice, managing projects and implementing strategies to support the achievement of the Department’s strategic and operational objectives.

The Program Coordinator role has been created in support of the LRLS Division’s commitment to Aboriginal Employment. This is a great opportunity to be at the forefront of an innovative program. A program aimed at supporting and mentoring Aboriginal law students and graduates

We’re committed to providing a flexible and inclusive working environment for our diverse workforce and supporting our people to deliver value for the community.

At DCJ, we are committed to improving employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and to building a workforce that better reflects the perspectives of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities we serve.

What you’ll do

The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the design and implementation of the LRLS Aboriginal Employment Program; and will provide a range of operational, project management and advisory services in support of this program.

This may include conducting research and identifying project deliverables for the implementation of the program to ensure Aboriginal law students and graduates are well supported; as well as ensure the promotion of cultural learning and development within the LRLS Division.

In this role you will be required to:

  • Implement and oversee the program design, including the establishment of the LRLS Aboriginal Employment Program.
  • Providing extensive support and mentorship to the Aboriginal law students and graduates participating in the program.
  • Develop and promote cultural learnings and development for the LRLS Division.
  • Develop an effective network of internal and external stakeholders to support and facilitate effective project management and implementation, including knowledge and understanding of machinery of government and operations of the Department.
  • Brief the Deputy Secretary and Senior Leadership Group on successes, risks and lessons learned throughout the program.
  • Update and maintain documentation and records as to policies and practices to ensure project deliverables are met, and any concerns are escalated to the appropriate Senior Managers and Executives.
  • Negotiate tasks and deadlines with various stakeholders to ensure the project is delivered on time and within budget.
  • You will be supported to deliver by the Deputy Secretary, and by strong corporate support from DCJ’s Aboriginal Employment Strategy Team and DCJ networks.

What we’re looking for

You have experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, communities and employees in delivering results that value Aboriginal voice and reciprocal approaches to positive outcomes.

We are looking for a highly organised and motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will have proven practical experience and expertise in designing and implementing priorities and project goals and getting things done.

You will have an incredible knack of building and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

You possess strong attention to detail as well as excellent communication skills with the ability to work individually and collaboratively.

You are a person with high levels of integrity and professionalism, sound judgement, discretion and initiative.
