Key responsibilities

  • All staff are responsible for identifying, managing and reporting risks relating to their work within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships.

Clients and Stakeholders

  • Ensure the appropriate systems, processes, networks and relationships are implemented to enable the department to lead, influence and obtain collaboration between local, state and commonwealth government agencies, private sector organisations and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities within the region, to improve service delivery outcomes.
  • Provide advice to senior management, including the Executive Director, Deputy Director-General and the Director-General on regional issues, particularly relating to whole of government Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service delivery, engagement and partnerships.
  • Facilitate, monitor and report on the implementation of partnership agreements between government and the community as well as the effectiveness and delivery of government services to nominated communities.
  • Negotiate and engage with Indigenous communities, respecting existing interests and facilitating the community's social and economic development within townships.
  • Lead and/or represent the department at significant forums, including cross agency/multi-jurisdictional governance committees, facilitating effective negotiation on all land use and infrastructure issues.
  • Effectively work with the three levels of government, brokering whole of government solutions that support project deliverables.
  • Actively identify and promote use of Indigenous businesses in the region.

Internal and Business Processes

  • Lead the delivery of best practice and innovation in the ongoing implementation of whole-of-government planning and engagement processes to improve service delivery outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Establish the development of a master Project Management Framework to track the progress of the deliverables of the significant projects of RILIPO.
  • Contribute to the development of appropriate performance milestones for each project.
  • Oversee projects/programs within RILIPO and manage appropriate dependencies and interfaces between key projects and activities.
  • Report on and coordinate responses to critical issues/incidents in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Ensures that key deliverables, outcomes and achievements are identified and reported in business plans and achievement plans.

  • Provide high level leadership and direction to staff so as to build individuals and teams committed to the achievement of organisational goals and outcomes.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the team by promoting and maintaining a culture of client service and performance management.
  • Promote an accountable, fair and safe work environment through the implementation of management practices, policies and procedures, including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunities/anti-discrimination and performance management.

Resource Management

  • Effectively lead the implementation of programs and projects at the regional level to ensure outcomes are achieved in a timely, appropriate and cost-effective manner within allocated resource and budget constraints.
  • Ensure effective management of human, financial and physical resources, ensuring a culture of client service, continuous improvement and innovation and ensuring performance outcomes are achieved to a high standard.
  • Adopt a collaborative approach to resource allocation to ensure resources are trenched to areas of most need.
