About Inland Rail

Inland Rail is a once-in-a-generation project that will complete the backbone of Australia's freight rail network. It will enhance supply chains by providing a transit time of 24 hours or less for freight trains between Melbourne and Brisbane. Inland Rail will connect regional Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland to markets more efficiently, drive substantial cost savings for producers and consumers, and deliver significant economic benefits. Inland Rail is the largest freight rail infrastructure project in Australia and one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the world.

About the opportunity

Join our Property Leadership Team as a Project Controls Lead, where your primary objective will be progress and performance reporting through data gathering, management, and analysis. You'll evaluate and communicate timely information to the Project Leadership and the wider Program Teams.
As the Project Controls Lead, you'll be deeply involved in the day-to-day delivery activities, identifying problems, and providing effective solutions. You'll coordinate, integrate, and liaise with processes to develop and implement necessary tools, systems, and reporting across Projects, Portfolios, and Program functions.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Leading a team of Project Controls personnel.
  • Ensuring compliance to Program Controls procedures and processes including Schedule, Cost, Change, Risk Management and Document Control.
  • Gathering and applying Project Controls best practices and lessons learned.
  • Support preparation of requirements that provide Inland Rail the tools and governance to Control, Monitor, Report and Manage, project objectives and risks.
  • Support Project Leadership Team in managing scope, schedule, cost, contract and risk to ensure integrated reporting of project performance.
  • Monitor, collect, consolidate, analyse and report on project productivity, scope, schedule, cost, risk and change.
  • Provide project teams and Inland Rail management project status updates, including early warnings, risks, issues and opportunities.
  • Provide project team management information and detail to help make 'best for program and project' decisions, whilst ensuring value for money.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Project Controls policies and processes.
  • Clearly articulate Project status and variances against baselines in both quantitative and qualitative terms in various reporting formats.

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Previous Project Controls Experience with strong delivery background in Land or Property.
  • Understanding of QLD and NSW property legislation.
  • Knowledge of Engineering, Procurement, ITC Contracts and Construction work processes.
  • Previous experience with controls systems Prism, P6, ARM.
    Self-starter and solutions focused.
  • Advanced in Excel.
  • Proficient in Power BI.

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Background in development of systems and tools.
  • Working in high pressure environments with ability to deliver quality outcomes in tight time frames.
