We have a unique opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our team which will be focused on the Energy Infrastructure and Utility Services market, this role will be responsible for managing the engineering and engineering delivery requirements to support precontracts and project delivery.
The Project Engineer is responsible for leading the engineering decision making for site based engineering activities. The Project Engineer works closely the project delivery team to ensure that the project is delivered successfully in terms of quality, cost and time. The Project Engineer is key to ensuring that site based engineering quality assurance processes are followed and documented.
The Project Engineer plays an important role in reviewing designs, procurement specifications, FAT and other pre-site activities to ensure that once projects reach the construction and commissioning stages, they will run as smoothly as possible.
Key accountabilities:
- Site related engineering decision making by ensuring the procurement (FAT), site technical hold points and any staging and commissioning activities are delivered in accordance with project requirements;
- Provide Project Engineering-based technical leadership and direction;
- Responsible for approving, and where appropriate, making engineering decisions for site work covering facets such as: SWMS, ITP’s, Hold Points, RPEQ sign-offs and certifications;
- Manages site-based design information and ensuring that site engineering decisions are made in a timely and cost-effective manner;
- Working with the project’s Construction Manager to manage and coordinate the revision control of the design information; mark-ups and site instructions for site based construction and commissioning parties;
- Working closely with the Project Design Manager to align design deliverables and decisions with the site works approach and quality systems to ensure constructability and fit for purpose outcomes;
- An active participant in the Preliminary and Final Design Reviews; Close Out Review; Safety in Design and Constructability processes;
- Working closely with the Construction Manager to ensure the site works approach delivers suitable site and projects outcomes, ensuring safe and logically sequenced site works schedules;
- Ensuring that all construction certificates are appropriately obtained, that the construction release is obtained, that the construction technical reports are finalised;
- Ensures all site-based design documentation (as built mark-ups and configurations) are suitably returned to the design office for post commissioning and final issue by the Lead Design Engineer.
Skills and Knowledge
- Demonstrated expert knowledge of the Energy Infrastructure and Utility Services market, how it is evolving and have established key knowledge areas and knowledge partners to allow the business to adapt quickly and adequately in providing new solutions to the market.
- Very strong understanding and experience in the design, construction, constructability, optioning and delivered costs associated with multi-disciplinary HV infrastructure projects including a demonstrated knowledge of, and commitment to workplace health and safety, and environmental practices.
- Direct experience in designing, constructing and commissioning of HV electrical infrastructure projects, with experience to include the civil, mechanical, control, protection, telecommunications, HV cable systems and OHL systems components.
- Broad technical and engineering understanding of HV connection solutions, Power Systems and electrical networks knowledge, inclusive of optioning and the development of concurrent solutions in complex decision environments.
- Strong cost and estimating knowledge in integrated HV solutions to develop and implement cost effective fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Proven skill in developing and maintaining viable customer relationships and understanding, supplying and delivering product solutions according to customer needs including entrepreneurial insight in the implementation of customer-focussed projects.
- Strong overall commercial acumen and proven ability to design and deliver projects and products to time, cost and quality objectives that address risks and reputational interests in a commercial context.
- Demonstrated success as an agent of change within a company undergoing significant transformation towards improving its commercial and competitive standing.
- Demonstrated ability to be a leader in a small multi-disciplinary team environment that places a high value on collaboration.
- High level of written and oral communication ability, along with well-developed inter-personal and negotiating skills.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering acceptable for membership of Institution of Engineers Australia in the Professional Engineering category.
- At least 5 years of post-graduate HV substations experience and will be a site based role during the construction and commissioning phases of a project.
