The Role

The Project Engineer Mechanical performs a key role, interfacing between the Engineering Team's Mechanical Discipline, and the Shipyard departments, primarily but not limited to Production, Manufacturing and Quality.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Engineering Mechanical at the Shipyard, across mechanical equipment, piping, HVAC, reporting and responding in a timely manner, while keeping Building Group owners informed and drawing on their Subject Matter Expert (SME) experience.
  • Work alongside Project Engineers in Mechanical and other Engineering disciplines, distributing technical queries among the appropriate disciplines and SMEs
  • Interface between Engineering SMEs and: Production, Manufacturing Engineering (ME), Quality, Set to Work (STW), Verification and Validation (V&V)
  • Report back to Shipyard Production at meetings, via email, work lists, Jira and other processes such as TQ, NCR and other means as the Project Engineer, and on behalf of SMEs.
  • Make professional informed decisions on day-to-day job cards and Technical Queries (TQ)s, while drawing from SMEs specialised experience.
  • Review and Approve Design Change from SMEs with consideration of Shipyard expertise and priorities.
  • Represent Engineering Mechanical at Production meetings, internal and with sub-contractors.
  • Arrange and participate in meetings between Production, ME, Quality, V&V and Subcontractors to assist in the timely resolution of TQs and NCRs.
  • Provide guidance to Manufacturing Engineering, in their complication of work packs for the Production team and sub-contractors.
  • Offer support to Quality and Procurement teams addressing Mechanical queries directly, or deferring more involved to the SMEs, as required.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders regarding Engineering.
  • Change Proposals (ECPs) and other engineering changes.
  • Take direction and guidance from the Engineering Manager Platform on Shipyard Engineering priorities, drawing from SMEs for technical guidance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture, with a focus on Mechanical disciplines.
  • Diploma in Mechanical, Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture.
  • Navy Experience, desired not essential.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a Mechanical, Marine or Piping role in the Shipbuilding industry, or similar multidisciplinary engineering
