About the role:
We have an opportunity for an experienced and motivated Project Engineer to be part of our team delivering innovation through planning and design of water and wastewater infrastructure. You will be responsible for the identification and development of innovation options in infrastructure planning to serve our existing and future population, finding smarter ways to protecting the environment and realise strategic ambitions for our service area. Key accountabilities will include but not be limited to:
- Work with the Strategic Infrastructure Manager in the development of an innovation strategy for wastewater treatment plants and water & sewer networks.
- Identification and development of opportunities for innovation in the planning and design of our water and wastewater services infrastructure (particularly STPs), to support progress towards achieving our corporate strategic ambitions. You will work closely with Strategic Planning, Treatment Services Planning, Treatment Plants Design, Environmental Sustainability, and Treatment Technology teams to achieve this.
- Engage with industry networks and stakeholders to constantly develop an awareness of innovative approaches and technologies being adopted elsewhere and assess their suitability for Unitywater’s infrastructure planning and design needs.
- Perform optioneering assessments to justify the efficiency of innovation options for wastewater treatment plants, working with the Treatment Services team and Principal Design Manager (STPs) to support needs analysis work, suitable to inform next phase business case development (concept, and detailed) for treatment plant upgrades.
- Lead project management and coordination for key strategic projects within the Strategic Infrastructure team and undertake the commissioning and project management of specialist studies required to inform key Strategic Infrastructure initiatives, including preparation of project briefs and plans.

About you:
To contribute to Unitywater’s values of Reliability, Safety, Honesty & Integrity, Efficiency, One Team, Innovation, you will ideally demonstrate the following skills and qualities for the role:
- Degree in Engineering and/or strategic planning coupled with experience in the water and sewerage industry or similar asset intensive industry.
- Demonstrated experience and a passion for strategic thinking, planning and strategy.
- Strong analytical and research skills, time management skills and the ability to draft complex reports.
- Ability to proactively take initiative and work autonomously to undertake multiple complex tasks producing high quality outputs.
- Well-developed facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- C Class Driver Licence.
