We are currently seeking experienced Project Managers required for an initial 12-month casual position, through Category 5 Labour Management, on site with our client who own and operate a coal fired power station in Darling Downs.
Category 5 Labour Management are proud to partner with our client who own and operate a state-of-the-art coal fired power station located in Millmerran, approximately 1 hour commute from Toowoomba and 30 minutes commute from Pittsworth. We are seeking applications for Project Managers to join their team.
The Company
As one of the most energy efficient coal-fired projects in Australia, the power station uses a supercritical boiler, with low nitrogen-oxide burners that cut NOx emissions by 50 to 70%. The station supplies base-load power and enough electricity to power approximately 1.1 million homes.
The Role
As an Project Manager, you will have responsibility to be a member of the Projects Team to assist the project team to deliver high priority reliability projects. You will also have responsibility for the development and implementation of other major maintenance and capital improvement projects.
As a member of the Engineering team, the Project manager will:
- Utilise contract resources to manage, design and execute an assigned project portfolio so that the projects are delivered at the right quality, to approved budget and schedules.
- Assist other site personnel (maintenance/ engineering) in delivering activities captured in the major maintenance and capital budgets.
Role Duties include:
- Manage assigned projects by reviewing documentation; ordering equipment, coordinating deliveries, carrying out site inspections and coordinating with operations, maintenance and HS&E in the delivery of projects safely, on schedule and within budget.
- Compile weekly report on the status of the projects under your control stating progress forecast against budget and planned work for the coming week.
- Updated reports to the Projects Coordinator on the status of assigned projects.
- Preparation and review of tender documents and quotations
- Planning, Inspection and quality control of work by contractors.
- Managing documentation and drawings.
- Preparation of project management documentation including project maintenance and capital expenditure approval process.
- Governance of project document control, event corrective action, work order and purchase order process and status in computer management system.
- Review outstanding recommendations / actions from event reports.
- Assisting in developing new proposed projects and /or optimising ongoing projects.
- Manage resources so that all assigned major maintenance and capital projects are delivered safely and follow management of change processes.
- Manage resources so that all assigned major maintenance and capital projects are completed to approved budget, schedule, and quality.
- Support the site as requested in the utilisation of project approval forms.
- Support the site as requested in the utilisation of plant modification forms.
- Ensure project close out forms are completed for each assigned project. Provide and/or review first pass costing as required for all proposed projects.
- Support the site as requested in identifying and engaging contract resources for non-assigned projects.
- Support the Projects Coordinator in managing the major maintenance and capital budgets for the site.
- Preparation of project cost estimates.
- Assist in management of capital budgets.
- Monitor contract variations so that the extra costs are identified and contained within the project budget.
Education
Essential
- Technical qualifications aligned with project work at Millmerran Power Station.
- Experience in maintenance within power station or similar environment.
- Understanding of Workplace health and safety act.
- Qualifications in Engineering.
- Qualification in project management/ PMBOK.
- Experience with Boiler and/or Turbine plant.
- Knowledge of power station operational practices.
- Experience using desk-top applications such as Microsoft Office, PI, JD Edwards, Oracle.
- Preparation and review of procedures.
Essential
- A good knowledge of project delivery processes
- General knowledge on the operation and maintenance of coal fired power stations.
- Understanding of project management processes and standards
- Understanding of Asset management principles
- Safe work procedures and risk assessment processes
- Preparation of risk assessments / JHA / work method statements
- Awareness of environmental management of power station operation.
- Basic understanding of the National Electricity Market.
