An excellent opportunity is available for a Project Officer to join the Personalised Oncology Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the Position

The primary responsibility of the position is to coordinate and facilitate various clinical research projects including observational and clinical studies relating to cancer administered by The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) and conducted at participating centres across Victoria and Australasia. The position will work with the Lead Investigators and participating centres to assist with study initiation, recruitment and coordination. This role will be primarily focused on the genito-urinary cancer studies within the Gibbs Lab.

This position will be responsible for some of the following functions:

• Project manage small to medium sized multi-site studies

• Support the lead investigator and ethics manager with lead ethics and site governance activities

• Establish trial processes including input into study protocols and workflows and assessing site feasibility

• Assist with preparation of trial documents and supplies (e.g. consent forms, manuals, eCRFs, collection kits), provide trial documents to sites, collect site essential documents, train sites in trial processes & initiate new sites

• Respond to site queries (eg. Processes or eligibility queries)

• Manage required study reporting including safety reporting, regulatory reporting and general updates as required by the lead investigator

• Assist with translational sub-study sample collection activities and shipping of samples to and from WEHI

• Assist with eCRF and study data management and data cleaning

• Process and store blood samples as per study protocol and SOPs

• Manage data registry research project access requests with registry fellows

• Other duties as directed

Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge and Skills:

• Degree level education or other relevant further education in health or science

• Minimum three years’ experience within oncology or clinical research setting or relevant experience demonstrating the appropriate competencies skills for the job and clinical setting

• Experience in project-based work with dynamic priorities

• Knowledge of the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research

• Demonstrated ability to consult and liaise with a range of health professionals in the establishment and maintenance of studies/clinical trials

• Experience in clinical research with tissue/blood sample collections, processing and storage

• Demonstrated experience in data collection and management

• Demonstrated computer literacy including proficiency in word, excel, powerpoint, outlook and teleconferencing software

• Driver’s license

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

• Familiarity with genitourinary cancer and or molecular biology

• Experience with data analysis in a research setting

• Phlebotomy skill

Terms of Appointment
This position is available for 2 years in a full time capacity. Salary is Research Employee Level 6 ($88,811 - $96,133). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
