Sonic Healthcare Group (Sonic) is an Australian owned Top 50 ASX listed company operating in the medical diagnostics markets of pathology, radiology, medical centres and related healthcare services.
Sonic Healthcare Australia Pathology (SHAP) operates the divisional office for Sonic’s pathology operations in Australia. Based in the Sydney CBD, the divisional office provides financial and executive leadership and operational support for Sonic’s 8 reporting practices in Australia in areas such as property, quality, marketing, engineering, IT and revenue assurance.
About the role
SHAP is currently seeking a Property Lease Accountant on a full-time or part-time basis based from Sonic’s Divisional office in the Sydney CBD, the role will report to the Sonic Healthcare Australia Pathology Australia CFO. The candidate will engage with property and finance teams from across the Australian Pathology Division to collate, validate and process leasing information required to comply with the leasing standard.
Success in this role will require intermediate data management skills, a keen eye for detail, and an ability to interpret lease agreements to identify key information relevant to the lease accounting standard.
In this role the candidate will
Develop a working knowledge of the ‘AASB16 Leases’ accounting standard to the level that you can explain the accounting implications of routine leasing events;
Update and maintain leasing data within the Powerplan solution including new leases, rent reviews, exercising of option periods and changes to lessor details;
Liaise with leasing teams across the business to capture changes to Sonic’s lease portfolio and ensure these changes are appropriately accounted for under AASB16;
Validate information received from business units and conduct inquiries where necessary;
Be able to interpret lease agreements and proficiently identify key lease details with accounting implications;
Assist with the reconciliation of data within the Powerplan system to local ledger information;
Provide expert advice to business units on proper accounting treatment (being AAS16) to ensure their accounts are accurately reconciled to the lease data;
Assist with reviews of financial statements at critical periods of the year;
Prepare work papers relating to reviews relating to other requirements of the leasing standard
Work with the leasing team on other project initiatives including the streamlining of lease maintenance processes, integration with legacy leasing systems, and testing of new or upgrades to software;
Liaise with external auditors and other advisors.
To be considered for this role you should preferably have the following:
An accounting qualification with some experience;
Awareness of the AASB16 lease accounting standard and the key data inputs driving accounting outcomes;
Experience working with large data sets and an interest in data management;
Exposure to lease contracts is advantageous but not essential;
An ability to work independently and a logical / methodical approach to your work;
Good time-management skills and the ability to adhere to set reporting timelines;
Strong written communication skills;
Intermediate excel skills;
A willingness to learn new software systems, specifically the Powerplan lease accounting solution;
