The opportunity The Public Health Nurse will lead a project that is focused on establishing a health service model to promote community health awareness and facilitate care in the early detection and management of health skin health and the primary and primordial prevention of skin disease, ARF, RHD and Group A streptococcus in First Nations people.

The Public Health Nurse will work as part of the Communicable Disease team, therefore; will work with Public Health Nurses  providing advice on communicable diseases and contemporary immunisation practice to health practitioners and the community, and to respond to disease outbreaks.

Generous remuneration package value up to $164,696 p.a. comprising:

  • Salary rates between $5081.10 - $5516.60 p.f. (NG7)
  • Annual leave loading + leave
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution

Role requirements  

  • Mandatory Qualification:
    • Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
    • Authorisation as an Immunisation Program Nurse to practice under the provisions of the Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 2021.  
  • Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.  
  • Highly Desirable: Appointed as, or prepared to undertake training to be appointed as, a Contact Tracing Officer under the Public Health Act 2005.  
  • Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required.  Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
  • The applicant ideally will have a working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, including the Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Matrix and Power Point.  
  • Travel: Travel by light aircraft may be required.   
  • Travel: Please note, from time-to-time this position will be required to travel to, and work at, other facilities located within the Rural Hospitals Service Group network to participate in meetings for planning, quality, performance, training and education, or clinical activities.  This may involve day and/or overnight stays.  Travel on small planes or ferry may be required. The successful applicant/s will need to be able to commit to this requirement.
