Suncoast Fresh is a B2B wholesale company who supplies high-quality fresh produce to cafes, restaurants, bars and yachts across Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Toowoomba and beyond. Working closely with farmers, suppliers, chefs, business owners and hospitality account managers, we deliver a paddock to plate wholesale fruit and veg solution that meets the ever-evolving demands of the hospitality industry.

Fruitlink is also a B2B wholesale company who distributes to a customer base made up of independent supermarkets and retailers such as IGA and Foodworks. Fruitlink offer fresh fruit and vegetables and a gourmet food range (think cheese, olives, pre-made salads and other perishable foods.) The Opportunity

We have a current vacancy for a Quality Assurance & WHS Manager to join the team, working for both brands across our three sites: Brisbane Markets, Byron Bay and Coolum. This is a full-time position working an average 38 hours per week Monday to Friday.

Reporting to the GM Warehousing & Logistics, the QA & WHS Manager is responsible for ensuring that all compliance around Quality Assurance & WHS is maintained at a high level. This includes completing all audits and ensuring all safety and quality legislation requirements are met. 

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the development and implementation of food safety and equipment WHS strategy and partnering with the business to meet legislative compliance.
  • Coach, mentor, influence and partner with key stakeholders, both internal and external for all safety matters and initiatives.
  • Apply current best practice WHS safety legislation, standards, guidelines and risk management principles, as it relates to the food and transport industries. 
  • Initiate and manage education and compliance programs for employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Develop and implement new WHS tools and programs with expert knowledge of current trends and best practice in WHS management and quality assurance.
  • Coordinate and conduct investigations into incidents; identify mitigation strategies to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Maintain records of all WHS requirements in accordance with legislative and company requirements.
  • Manage Workers’ Compensation claims and conduct ‘Return To Work’ coordinator activities.
  • Facilitate monthly safety and quality team meetings across the organisation.
  • Maintain Traffic Management Plan, Code of Responsibility, and compliance to Heavy Vehicle National Law and Regulations.
  • Act as Work Health and Safety Officer.
  • Conduct Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) audits.
  • Ensure PPE for GMP is used correctly. Provide advice and direction where necessary.
  • Calibrate probes monthly
  • Act as SQF practitioner
  • Adhere to the company’s policies on standards specified for the protection of produce
  • Co-ordinate the implementation of SQF & HARPS Quality System across all three sites
  • Work towards ISO Accreditation (9001, 14001 and 45001)

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will be a strong safety leader with a positive, can-do attitude and demonstrate strong self-management skills including time management and organisational skills. A strong WHS & Quality Assurance background with sound understanding of and commitment to Qld & NSW legislation including implementation and application is essential. You will have a proven track record of being able to build rapport effectively and efficiently and be able to coach and develop others in safety and quality. Essential qualities include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in quality, safety or similar discipline
  • Formal HACCP Training
  • Demonstrated understanding of food safety and quality systems
  • Extensive experience in the Fruit and Vegetable industry
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Methodical and innovative approach to solving problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with staff in a proactive, positive and supportive way.
  • Proven competency in policy development, workplace investigations, problem solving, and decision making and record keeping
  • A readiness for travel periodically to branches in Coolum and Byron Bay
  • Experience in warehousing and food industries preferred 
  • Ability to work towards ISO Accreditation (9001, 14001 and 45001)
  • Current drivers licence
