Sea Harvest Pty Ltd is 100% owned by Sea Harvest Group, a vertically integrated fishing company with operations in multiple countries around the world. Sea Harvest Group is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and offers a global sea-to-plate product offering through established brands.
Sea Harvest Australia's prawn fishing takes place in Shark Bay and the Exmouth Gulf, Western Australia. The Company operates a total of 11 prawn trawlers, 2 demersal fish trawlers and 3 Spanish Mackerel vessels.
The Company is now seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced Quality Assurance Managers to support the two regional prawn fishing operations based in Carnarvon and Exmouth. Although ideally suited to a local resident of either of those two centres, the Company will consider equally, those applicants domiciled in metropolitan WA.
This role is full time permanent and reports directly through to the Prawning Operations Manager. The Company is open to negotiate a non-employee Contractor arrangement, if it transpires that that is the more suitable option. Commencement date will be mid-March 2024.
About the Role:
The position is responsible for the development and maintenance of all aspects of the Quality Management System in line with all legislative requirements. The role provides leadership, direction, and guidance to both on-shore and off-shore personnel to ensure the delivery of safe and quality seafood products to the market. This will include maintaining systems and procedures for all audit requirements and close liaison with all prawn vessel Masters and first mates.
Key responsibilities:
- Plan, execute, and oversee product inspection and testing for quality and conformance to specifications and deliverables.
- Ensure that all product and process monitoring is conducted and recorded in accordance with the requirements of the AA (Approved Arrangement Manual Export Registered Establishments)
- Assist operations by tracking, documenting, and reporting quality levels and project outcomes.
- Investigate reports of product quality issues and ensure resolution in accordance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Develop or update procedures for capture, investigation, and documentation of product complaints.
- Monitor risk-management procedures, maintain problem logs, and report issues to vessel masters and operations managers.
- Provide on-board processing, Quality Assurance and general training support to the Company’s fishing vessel crews.
- Commission applicable vessel processing equipment such as scales and temperature probes.
- Support operational readiness for external audits.
- Non-conformance management & corrective actions.
- Provide food safety technical assistance to other areas of fishing operations.
Successful applicant will ideally have:

- Thorough understanding of the Export Control Rules (Fish and Fish products) 2021 & EU Export requirements.
- Thorough understanding of the Approved Arrangement (AA) system.
- Thorough understanding of Food Standards Australia. (FSANZ)
- Thorough understanding of Coles Standard. (CFMRS)
- Comprehensive knowledge of Quality Assurance terminology, methods, and tools.
- Advanced computer skills including database management.
- HACCP
- Advanced analytical, problem solving, decision making, time management and organisational skills
- Professional qualification in either food safety / auditing / quality management or a related discipline.
Physical Demands of the Role:
This position would suit an individual who enjoys travelling, spending periods of time at sea and can easily relate to colleagues at all levels.
What is on Offer:
The base salary range will be $110,000 - $140,000, (negotiable) commensurate with qualifications and experience. Superannuation and a motor vehicle allowance will be paid additional to the base salary.
