Quality Control Chemist 

We are an award-winning gin distillery located in Far North Queensland. We are renowned for crafting premium, high-quality spirits using traditional methods combined with modern innovation. We pride ourselves on our meticulous attention to detail and commitment to excellence.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Quality Control Chemist with a background in chemical engineering to join our distillery team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of our spirit products through rigorous testing and analysis, adhering to regulatory standards, and maintaining the highest Quality Control (QC) practices.Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:1. Quality Control and Testing:- Performing chemical and physical analyses of raw materials, intermediate products and finished spirit products to ensure they meet specified standards.- Utilising advanced analytical techniques and instrumentation for routine testing and quality assurance.2. Process Monitoring and Improvement:- Monitoring the distillation process to ensure consistency and quality.- Identifying areas for process optimisation and improvement and implementing improvements to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.- Collaborating with the distillery team to troubleshoot and resolve any issues affecting product quality.3. Compliance and Documentation:- Ensuring all QC procedures comply with industry regulations, safety standards and company policies.- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all testing, inspections and Quality Control activities.- Preparing reports and documentation for internal review and external audits.4. Research and Development:- Assisting in the development of new spirit products by providing technical support and conducting experimental trials.- Staying current with industry trends, technological advancements and regulatory changes to continually improve QC processes.5. Team Collaboration and Training:- Working closely with our Distiller and other team members to develop and implement Quality Control protocols.- Training and mentoring staff on QC procedures and best practices.The Right Candidate

The preferred candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • Bachelor or higher degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a Quality Control role or a related field within the beverage or spirits industry, preferably in a distillery setting.
  • Technical skills & proficiency in analytical techniques and familiarity with distillation processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Quality Control principles, regulatory standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO), and safety protocols in the food and beverage industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving quality issues.- Experience with sensory evaluation and flavour profiling in gin, rum or other spirits.- Knowledge of botanicals and their impact on spirit flavour and quality.What We Offer:
