Reporting to the Berrima Operations Manager, the Quality Manager role is critical in ensuring the overall performance and quality of cement production processes and therefore the achievement of Boral’s overall sustainability and strategic objectives. Responsible for organising and directing all aspects of Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) for the Berrima Cement Works, the Quality Manager will provide overall leadership, management and technical control of the Boral Cement QC Laboratory and Alternate Fuels laboratory, ensuring compliance with all Boral OHS&E requirements.
Working closely with the Production, Technical Services and Maintenance areas, you will play a key role in driving continuous improvements in the laboratories and overall Cement Works at Berrima.
Your day will involve:
- Ensuring accurate, on time in full and cost effective QC sampling, testing and reporting.
- Providing management and technical leadership of the raw material control system for Kiln feed using integrated PLC.
- Providing technical support to operations and sales for product and process development, quality improvements and investigations.
- Testing and reporting on raw materials and product quality to Operations and Technical Managers daily
- Managing the operating budget for the Boral Cement QC Laboratory & Alternate Fuels Laboratory at Berrima.
- Managing the training, competency and personal development of Boral Cement QC Laboratory staff to ensure minimum knowledge requirements are met and exceeded.
- Providing technical support for the selection, commissioning, calibration, method development, training and maintenance of laboratory equipment for QC testing.
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Applied Science (Chemistry), Materials Science/Engineering, Manufacturing or Geology.
- Demonstrated experience in a quality related role in a construction materials environment, ideally within clinker and cement manufacturing.
- Experience in clinker, cement, limestone and/or lime quality testing as well as radiation sources and PLC control.
- Experience with and a technical understanding of Analytical equipment (specifically XRF and XRD) as well as competency with Laboratory Information Management System software.
- High level understanding of statistical process control methodologies, principles of measurement, test methods, measurement uncertainty and significance of test results generated.
