Greyhound Racing in Queensland has entered an exciting new phase in 2024 with the amalgamation of the Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club and Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club to form the Queensland Greyhound Racing Club (QGRC). In late 2024 the QGRC will commence transitioning its operations to The Q Greyhound Racing facility located in Yamanto south-west of Ipswich.
The Queensland Greyhound Racing Club (QGRC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation into its next phase of growth and success. As the CEO, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, effective management, and fostering key relationships within the Greyhound Racing industry. This role demands a visionary leader with a proven track record in executive management, financial acumen, and a deep understanding of the racing landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the Club's strategic vision, ensuring alignment with industry trends and fostering a culture of innovation.
- Prepare and oversee the implementation of the Club's Strategic and Business Plans.
Stakeholder Management
- Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including industry bodies, regulatory authorities, sponsors, and members.
- Act as the primary spokesperson for the QGRC, representing the Club within the Greyhound Racing community and externally in the media and broader sports and racing industries.
Operational Management
- Oversee all aspects of Greyhound Racing operations, including race programming, event management, venue operations, and member services.
- Collaborate with the Principal Racing Authority (PRA), Greyhound Clubs Australia (GCA), and other industry bodies to ensure compliance and best practices.
Financial Management
- Develop and manage the Club's annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability and compliance with control measures.
- Provide regular reports on budget performance and financial health.
People Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and manage the Club's staff, fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork.
- Oversee recruitment, selection, and development of staff to ensure a high-performing team.
Marketing, Events and Communications
- Drive the strategic direction of marketing and advertising initiatives to enhance the Club's brand.
- Manage major events, such as awards ceremonies and racing carnivals, to elevate the Club's profile.
- Oversee public relations, media liaison, and sponsorship management.
Greyhound Racing Industry Stewardship
- Leverage extensive experience in Greyhound Racing to drive the Club's success.
- Stay abreast of industry developments and ensuring the Club remains at the forefront of the Greyhound Racing landscape.
Selection Criteria
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Sports Administration, Management, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in a CEO, GM, or similar executive-level position.
- Proven track record in successfully leading significant organisational change initiatives within a dynamic and evolving environment.
- Demonstrated success in building and maintaining internal and external relationships.
- Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
- Expertise and commercial success in Events, Marketing, and Communications in a professional sporting environment.
- A solid understanding of the landscape and intricacies of, as well experience in, Greyhound Racing will be highly regarded.
Hours of Work
- The Club conducts eight race meetings per week from at the Albion Park Raceway and Ipswich Showgrounds. The position will initially be based at Albion Park Raceway, with the need to have a presence across both venues. Once The Q is fully operational, the position will be based at Yamanto. Due to the nature of the position some evening and weekend work is required. The position allows for flexible working hours based around the needs of the Club and our clients.
Salary and Conditions
- A Salary Package commensurate with the position will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
