The Northam Race Club Story
The Northam Race Club has proudly been racing since 1863 and is a premier provincial winter club within Western Australia. Hosting on average 21 race meetings per year between the months of April and November, including the $200,000 Group 3 Northam Stakes, the $150,000 Listed Northam Cup and $100,000 WA Day Cup.
The Opportunity
The Northam Race Club is currently seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual to fill the position of Racetrack Curator/Track Manager.
As the Track Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in leading and developing a small team responsible for maintaining and preparing the racecourse proper and grounds to the required standard and condition. Your efforts will play an instrumental role in providing a superior experience for all stakeholders, race day patrons and visitors, in line with the Club and Racing and Wagering Western Australia standards, as well as ensuring the continued growth of the Northam Race Club.
With a strong focus on data collection and scheduling, you'll prioritise and oversee all maintenance tasks, and you will work closely and collaboratively with the Club Manager.
While having at least three years’ experience in managing racing surfaces, and a proven ability to lead and develop a team would be advantageous, we welcome applicants of all experience levels within the turf management industry, as we are dedicated to providing training and development opportunities to the right candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn and grow with us.
This is a full-time 38 hours per week role, and the successful applicant will be required to work outside of the normal weekly hours and in line with business demand and the racing schedule.
The Right Fit
To excel in this role, you’ll be a highly motivated individual with a minimum Certificate III in Sports Turf Management and a passion for maintaining a high-quality racecourse, along with the following experience, skills and capability:
Essential
- Experience in the Thoroughbred Racing Industry
- It is essential that you hold certification in chemical storage, handling, and application
- Have extensive experience managing, maintaining, and operating pressurized irrigation systems
- Operational and knowledge of agricultural and turf machinery, and mechanical maintenance skills
- Physically fit and who can work in the outside elements
- Hold a current WA C class driver’s license
- Have a developed understanding of Occupational Safety and Health
- The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be highly organised, and be able to work collaboratively with a team
Desirable
- First Aid Certificate
- HR class license will be highly regarded but not essential
