As a Radio Technician with St John WA you will join a proactive and self-motivating team in a modern workshop based in Belmont and maintain the Metropolitan radio network located across all St John ambulances and fleet across 13 sites in the Perth metro area from Mandurah to Quinns rocks and east to Wooroloo (each day will start and finish at Belmont and you will travel to other locations as needed). You will also be part of a complete upgrade to this network which is expected to take place in 2025. What you’ll do:
- Assist career ambulance employees and volunteers with all radio and communication requirements
- Install, maintain and service VHF, UHF, P25 UHF and Nokia microwave systems and equipment
- Assist installations and decommissioning of radio and communication equipment from vehicles
- Assemble and test systems and equipment and record and document all job faults
- Maintain radio services vehicle in a clean and tidy condition
- Monitor and install current and future technologies i.e. RFID
- Assist the Radio Communications Manager with the planning, development and implementation of all project plans
- Identify and monitor resources to ensure that the project is completed in a timely manner
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders ensuring that their expectations are managed effectively and that any issues are reported back to the Radio Communications Manager
- Provide detailed reports to Radio Communications Manager on request
- Assist the Radio Installer with liaising with St John Staff and Volunteers with the coordination of installation times
- Provide service records that can be used in the development of preventative maintenance programs
- Attend or report on behalf on the Radio Communications Manager or Senior Radio Technician as required
- Assist Radio Communications Manager and Senior Radio Technician with liaising with suppliers to ensure that Fleet and Radio are sourcing the most up to date equipment within budget requirements.
- Participate in the On Call Roster
- The position is Perth Metropolitan base with some occasional country travel
What you’ll need:
- Three years post-apprenticeship experience or possession of a diploma or relevant qualifications, telecommunications and equivalent trade certificate.
- Demonstrated experience with communicating with internal and external stakeholders, Problem solving and fault diagnosis and report writing
- Knowledge and experience in land mobile communication equipment
- A demonstrated understanding in microwave radio systems
- Knowledge of 3G, 4G, WIFI, PTT and satellite forms of communication (desirable)
- Worked with Simoco, Kyodo, Omnitronics, and Tait P25 radio equipment (desirable)
