Exciting opportunity to join our Ewamian Ranger Team to manage and implement the Ewamian Ranger Program and the Indigenous Protected Area Plan of Management.

Are you passionate about conservation and land management and working with indigenous people to manage and protect cultural heritage? We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as the Ranger Coordinator.

As a Ranger Coordinator, you will be based at Talaroo IPA/Nature Refuge (31,500 ha) and have the opportunity to work closely with Ewamian rangers to manage Talaroo, while also working with key stakeholders such as QPWS in the management of Private Protected Areas on Ewamian Country. Ewamian Country extends over the Northwest of Queensland east from where the Gulf Development Road meets the Kennedy Highway, west to the Gilbert River, north to the intersection of the Einasleigh and Gilbert Rivers and south to Gilberton and Oak Park, an area of some 29,000km2.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team to develop and deliver work plans, timely reporting, initiatives, and project outcomes;
  • Work with Rangers to enhance their understanding of conservation land management, planning, monitoring and review, and to enhance their skills in conservation activities;
  • Ensure that Rangers have a good understanding of how daily work activities link to broader management objectives and how yearly and monthly work plans direct daily work activities; and
  • Co-ordinate the implementation of Talaroo Plan of Management Plan and Fire, Weed and Pest Management Plan in coordination with Ewamian Rangers Work Plan, Nature Refuge Agreement guidelines and Ewamian Limited Strategic Plan and other guiding documents.

Qualifications:

  • Formal Conservation and Land Management qualifications;
  • Experience working in a supervisory role;
  • A current Class C Driver’s Licence is essential. Extensive 4WD driving experience in remote areas would be considered desirable;
  • Ability to plan, cost and project manage complex operational activities in a remote setting;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours inclusive of out-of-ordinary working hours and weekends, particularly during the annual fire program;
  • Excellent communication skills, problem solving and lateral thinking attributes;
  • High level of computer literacy skills in Office and proficient use of basic mapping platforms such as Google Earth, NAFI and Qld Globe, and field-based GPS applications;
  • Excellent organisational and coordination skills;
  • Physical fitness as on-country work will be required; and
  • Good mechanical and small engine maintenance knowledge is preferred.

We offer:

  • A meaningful opportunity to contribute to the protection of our natural and cultural heritage;
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities;
  • A supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity; and
  • The chance to work in breathtaking Ewamian landscapes and be immersed in indigenous traditions.

Ewamian People are strongly encouraged to apply for this position.

Join us in making a lasting impact on our environment while celebrating the knowledge and wisdom of indigenous communities. Together, let's create a brighter future for Ewamian People!
