About the role:

This role exists to champion Reconciliation, by supporting the Manager of Reconciliation and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging as a senior and integral member of the Reconciliation team.  

The role focuses on supporting the execution of the deliverables within the WMQ Reconciliation Action Plan Innovate 2.0.  

The Reconciliation Senior Officer, with the direction from the Manager, Reconciliation and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging is responsible for the delivery of key engagement and learning activities, including leading face-to-face employee yarning circles, employee cultural education sessions and community engagement. The role is also integral in supporting the delivery of WMQ’s First Nations employment targets. 

This is a First Nations (Indigenous) Identified position. WMQ recognizes that being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational requirement for this position, as outlined in s25 of the Anti-Discriminations Act 1991 (Qld). 

About you: 

Essential:  

  • You understand the importance and uniqueness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their cultures, knowledges, and experiences and can respectfully and effectively engage with Australia’s First Nations peoples.  
  • Sound understanding of all aspects of Reconciliation, within a large complex organization.  
  • Strong influencing, administration and face to face presentation skills.  
  • The ability to consistently role-model positive leadership behaviors and an inclusive mindset, especially to persons within our workforce who come from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Aptitude and ability with related application systems and technology.  
  • Excellent attention to detail, personal organization and time management skills as well as the ability to prioritize and work effectively in a busy environment.  
  • Willingness to work within the Philosophy, Policies and Procedures of Wesley Mission Queensland and the Uniting Church in Australia.  
  • Proof of Vaccination Status as required by Legislation, Health Directives or WMQ Policy throughout employment and prior to commencement.  
  • Relevant probity checks required by legislation and WMQ policy. 1 
  • Current Driver’s License and willingness to drive in the course of work.  

 Desirable:  

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications would be highly desirable.  
  • Experience working in a similar role.

This position for a Reconciliation Senior Officer is an First Nations Identified role.
