Job description

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to fill APS 6 Recruitment Manager and APS 5 Senior Recruitment Officer roles in our National Recruitment Unit's Campaigns and Operations teams.

We are looking to fill both permanent and temporary positions. The successful candidates for either role can work full-time or part-time hours and flexible working arrangements, including a hybrid model of working from home and the office applies.

About the roles

As an APS 6 Recruitment Manager your responsibilities may include:

  • co-designing and managing end-to-end recruitment campaigns, providing talent sourcing advice and guidance to hiring areas and selection panels
  • overseeing onboarding and team workload allocation, managing expectations, identifying risks and problem-solving
  • working collaboratively and using a strong strategic mindset to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and clients (both internal and across the APS)
  • managing staff development and building capability within the team
  • supporting change management strategies, identifying improvements and implementing changes
  • maintaining an awareness of updates to APS legislation and ABS guidelines.

As an APS 5 Senior Recruitment Officer your responsibilities may include:

  • supporting the APS 6 Recruitment Managers in designing and running recruitment and mobility processes
  • providing support to selection panels and candidates, with a focus on building and maintaining strong relationships with hiring areas and selection panels
  • delivering high quality customer focused services, responding to client needs, meeting agreed deadlines and maintaining effective communication channels
  • supervising the operations team, undertaking quality assurance work and ensuring all pre-employment, contract renewals and onboarding is conducted in a quality and timely manner  
  • responding verbally and in writing to a wide range of enquiries: preparing letters of offer, completing advertising templates, responding to emails and overseeing the resolution of requests allocated through ABS’ internal client incident resolution platform, Services@ABS
  • understanding and complying with relevant policies, procedures and legislation
  • managing and prioritising tasks, allocating team resources appropriately
  • identifying improvements and implementing changes.

What we are looking for (selection criteria)

To be suitable for an APS 6 Recruitment Manager role you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience: 

  • recruitment or human resources experience (essential), including an understanding of recruitment within an Australian Public Service context (essential)
  • excellent communication and client engagement skills
  • ability to identify and implement innovations, including in the use of HR related technology
  • ability to manage and develop a diverse and high performing team
  • experience in managing projects or work program.

Desirable but not essential is someone who has formal qualifications in human resources.

To be suitable for an APS 5 Senior Recruitment Officer role you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience: 

  • knowledge of and ideally experience in running end to end recruitment processes
  • ability to understand, apply and comply with relevant legislation, policies and procedures
  • experience using recruitment and other software (desirable is Excel, Notes, Acendre (e-recruit))
  • excellent customer service skills  
  • experience in identifying, resolving and communicating issues in a timely fashion
  • ability to identify, support and share ideas and improvements to our business
  • ability (or preferably experience) in managing a small team for high performance.
