Refrigeration Mechanic - Mining

About the role

As our Refrigeration Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the proper functioning and maintenance of refrigeration systems within our mining and camp facilities, along with our maritime operations. 

This role is a 15:13 FIFO roster arrangement based on the Skardon River. To be eligible for this role, you must reside in Bamaga, Mapoon, Weipa, or Cairns.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Reactive and preventative maintenance on all substations, air conditioning and compressor units
• Undertake regular maintenance and installations on air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment in the village and mine site
• Fault Finding and refurbishment works
• Compressor changeouts
• Install, maintain, and repair refrigeration systems in mine, camp, and marine environments. 
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and address potential issues before they escalate.
• Troubleshoot refrigeration systems to diagnose and resolve technical problems efficiently.
• Perform repairs and replacements of components such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, and controls.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols while working in hazardous mining environments.
• Collaborate with other team members and departments to coordinate maintenance schedules and optimise system performance.
• Document maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and equipment performance.

Qualifications & Experience 

• Refrigeration Mechanic trade qualification 
• BSA Contractor Licence - Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Mechanical Services
• Refrigerant Handling License (RAC)
• Restricted Electrical Licence. 
• Valid Australian HR Drivers Licence
• LV Rescue & CPR qualified
• Proven experience as a refrigeration technician, preferably in a mining or industrial environment.
• Proficiency in installing, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration systems, including knowledge of refrigerants and HVAC principles.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and protocols in industrial settings, particularly in mining environments.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with the capacity to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
