Lilly Pilly Place is a brand-new women's and children's refuge in Gunnedah, NSW. The refuge offers accommodation and specialist support to women and their children escaping domestic violence. It is operated by Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Corporation, which is committed to providing a safe haven for women and children of all backgrounds.
As a Support Worker, you will fulfill the requirements of a sleep over shift onsite at the refuge. During the sleepover, you will be "on call" to assist clients with any urgent tasks and respond to any emergencies that may arise. Your role will involve providing emotional support and crisis intervention, ensuring the safety and security of clients, and ensuring compliance with shelter policies and procedures. By working in this role, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of women and children in need, helping them rebuild their lives free from violence.
The position will start as a Monday to Friday (day) role, but it will transition to a permanent night shift roster that includes weekend work.
This is a unique opportunity to join a new service at the beginning of its journey and shape the service delivery by contributing to the development of forms, policies, procedures and framework.
Key Duties:
- Overnight (sleep) shift and support
- On call during sleep shift to provide crisis response and respond to emergencies.
- Provide support to women and their children who are fleeing DFSV.
- Work independently.
- Maintain the safety and security of residents of the refuge.
Skills & Experiences
- A Cert III or higher education in Community Services, social work, welfare or a related field, or relevant experience with willingness to work towards certification.
- Extensive experience and comprehensive knowledge of domestic violence, including trauma-informed practices, crisis intervention, case management, assessment and response to risk, and an understanding of high-risk indicators and protective factors.
- Thorough understanding and experience working with current legislation (Domestic and Family Violence Act 2012, Child Protection Act 1999), DFV framework and guidelines.
- Have or be willing to undergo a Working with Children Check and a Police Check.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Current Driver’s License
