The Role and our Branch
The Kimberley Education Region Office seeks to ensure that the system and Regional Attendance and community engagement plans are actioned within schools and networks across the region.
The Regional Attendance Officer will provide strategic advice and support to Principals and student services teams in implementing school attendance and community engagement strategies within schools to ensure parents and caregivers are partners in the education of their children at a school community level.
The Regional Attendance Officer will play an active role in managing regional and school based Aboriginal advisory councils to ensure the voice and aspirations of parents and families are reflected in the strategic direction of schools.
The role will also provide strategic and cultural advice to School Psychology Services and the participation team regarding regional programs and strategies for Aboriginal students.

As the Regional Attendance Co-ordinator you will support and lead the effective implementation of procedures and processes in schools to ensure non-attending and alienated students participate and are engaged in educational programs. The successful applicant will provide strategic advice and support to Principals and school staff in the implementation of school attendance strategies and policy compliance.
A critical part of this role will be to provide advice and mentoring support to School Based Attendance Officers and Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers in their roles and responsibilities. Particularly in relation to engaging students in school, as well as forging partnership with families in building positive working relationships between staff, students, parents and caregivers across school communities.

Your written application will be assessed against the following Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated high-level understanding of current trends and issues in education in relation to alienated and non-attending students (e.g. Aboriginal students and students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds).
Demonstrated extensive understanding of Attendance Advisory Panels including panel coordination, community and school engagement, Responsible Parenting Agreements and the ability to deliver relevant training.
Demonstrated experience in managing projects related to alienated and non-attending students.
Demonstrated leadership, analytical and conceptual skills illustrating an ability to identify and clarify issues leading to the development and/or implementation of regional strategies and programs.
Highly developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills that demonstrate the ability to mediate, resolve conflict and work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary and/or multi-agency team environment.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check if required
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
