About Bowen Gumlu Growers Association
Bowen Gumlu Growers Association (BGGA) represents the interests of horticultural growers, producers and associated agribusinesses in North Queensland. The association’s key activities include grower support services, advocacy, industry and workforce development and the delivery of projects focused on improving on-farm practices, commercial outcomes for farming businesses and the prosperity of our regional community.
Role Description
This diverse role is stakeholder focused and works to deliver industry development and extension outcomes in accordance with the National Vegetable Extension Network (VegNET) program across North and Far North Queensland. The role works within our operational team and reports to the BGGA General Manager but will also liaise with several external stakeholders in other growing regions and across Australia regarding the delivery of the program.
Duties expected in the role include:
- Engage directly with vegetable growers and other stakeholders to deliver the program strategy, communicate program information and increase awareness of program actions in priority areas such as research and development, innovation and technology.
- Identify support and extension needs providing liaison and linkage between growers, BGGA, program stakeholders and other government departments and industry groups.
- Collaborate with industry experts on identified needs to solve grower challenges in areas such as pest and disease management, crop protection, water and energy use and inputs management.
- Develop regional industry networks and facilitate meetings to ensure consistency of messages to industry and enhance knowledge and application of program outcomes.
- Identify, plan and support the delivery of extension activities such as workshops, information and training sessions and other capacity building activities.
- Undertake actions to collate relevant grower information, resources, and data to support the program and other decision making.
- Undertake and complete regular reporting, monitoring and evaluation of the program.
- Support other business activities undertaken by Bowen Gumlu Growers Association and the operational team as required.
Selection Criteria
- Able to demonstrate experience in stakeholder engagement and building relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
- Able to demonstrate strong communication, administration and organisational skills with a high attention to detail.
- Able to demonstrate the ability to work autonomously but work collaboratively with a larger team.
- Able to manage multiple priorities, mature minded, customer focused and commercially discreet.
- Experience working in a similar role or within the Agricultural sector an advantage but not essential.
- Qualifications in Horticulture or an Agricultural science are an advantage but not essential.
- Open driver license is essential and the ability to travel across North Queensland periodically.
